Mining: Mineral processing additives

Bondtite offers a range of functionalised wattle tannin extract products and natural polymer blends for mineral processing. These products are applied, mainly, as dispersants and depressants in froth flotation processes separating unwanted gangue material from the sought-after minerals.

BONDTITE PRODUCTS CAN ALSO BE USED FOR:

Bondtite’s unmodified and functionalised wattle tannin products can be used in various industrial and agricultural applications and formulations. Examples of these include:

• Accelerating additive for thermosetting PF resins.
  The polyphenolic nature of Wattle tannin allows it to react with formaldehyde to form strong thermoset resins with physical properties comparable with those of normal phenolic resins. It is more akin to resorcinol in its rate of reaction and like resorcinol accelerates the thermosetting of phenolic resins.
• Boiler water treatment
  Bondtite’s wattle tannin extract is a natural anti-oxidant. This removes dissolved oxygen form the boiler water and reduces corrosion. Due to the chemical properties of the tannin it can also sequester divalent ions to reduce hard lime-scale build-up in the boilers
• Agriculture
  Bondtite’s unmodified wattle tannin extract is completely natural and safe to use. Its natural metal complexing, protein binding, and astringent properties allows it to find ever-increasing agricultural applications. These applications include:
  • Soil conditioning products which can help to extend the bio-availability of minerals and nutrients to plants,
  • Animal husbandry products and feed additives,
  • Foliar sprays for crop protection.
• Wash primers and rust inhibitors.
  Wattle tannins are well known to bind strongly with iron to form insoluble complexes. This property can be exploited in formulating effective wash primer and rust inhibitor products.
• Dust suppressants and Binders
  Bondtite’s dust suppressant, mineral and coal binder product offers effective bonding across these applications. This product provides good binding to serve an array of dust suppressant applications. This product is also able to bind high density minerals, coal and charcoal for briquetting.
• Phenol-formaldehyde type foams.
  Wattle tannin is a natural polyphenolic material which can substitute phenol in these applications while also providing a high degree of heat resistance to the final foam product.
• Concrete additives
  Bondtite’s modified tannin products, based on its improved dispersing properties, can be used as concrete additives and can assist in managing factors like reducing water requirements, concrete flow properties and curing rates.
